Ahead of the world premiere of her new visual album Something Beautiful at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival, Miley Cyrus is opening up about the artistic vision behind her cinematic release—and the unexpected role Harrison Ford played in steering her creative direction.
In an emotional and revealing interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter explains her decision to skip a traditional tour and instead bring her project to the big screen.
“I really wanted it to be in a theater,” Cyrus says. “That experience—when you walk in and your brain just changes—I wanted fans to feel like they’re in it, present, focused, and moved.”
Why Something Beautiful Belongs in Theaters
The new film, described as a “pop opera” and directed by Cyrus alongside Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter, features 13 original tracks from her upcoming ninth studio album, also titled Something Beautiful (dropping May 30).
The immersive experience is more than just a concert film—it’s a storytelling experiment in community, beauty, and presence.
“You don’t just lay in your bed and half-watch this,” she says. “This is about bringing community back to music in a time when everything’s so isolated.”
“Somewhere Beautiful”—The Tour That Never Was
Originally, Cyrus had another plan. She dreamed of performing “Somewhere Beautiful”—a small, nature-rooted concert series in breathtaking locations like ancient forests and cathedrals. But one conversation changed everything.
“I showed Harrison [Ford] this PDF on my phone—my idea for forest concerts,” she laughed. “And he’s like, ‘You really wanna go set up in a forest? You bringing a crew? Sounds expensive.’”
Ford’s pragmatic response—delivered at the 2024 Disney Legends ceremony where he honored Cyrus—stuck with her. And it helped her realize that a film might be the perfect middle ground between spectacle and sustainability.
“The film is my way of touring,” she says. “It gives you the intimacy of a performance without taxing myself in a way that isn’t healthy for me.”

Cyrus also opened up about her rare vocal condition—Reinke’s edema, which causes a large polyp on one vocal cord and gives her that signature raspy tone.
“I don’t lip-sync. I sing live. And these songs are big,” she said. “I put a tour together in my head every other week, but it has to be sustainable. Physically, emotionally—it all matters.”
