• Spc. Sarah Beckstrom: A 20 year old female who died a tragic death as a result of her injuries.
Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe: A 24 year old who survived a life-threatening head injury and is now undergoing an extraordinary recovery in rehabilitation.
Also, Staff Sgt. Jacob Hill of Alabama, who died of an off-duty medical emergency just before Thanksgiving, was slain in the mission.
Such incidences have brought a sense of responsibility to many guardsmen despite the expressions of frustration by other guardsmen about the duration of the deployment and the toll it has taken on their civilian careers and families.

This mission has been maintained in a large extent because of the Federal District Status of Washington, D.C. The President of the United States has direct control over the D.C. National Guard unlike in the 50 states where the governors are the main actors in the affairs of the Guard.
