A Florida teenager pleaded for her life after witnessing her stepfather murder her mother right before her eyes. She was then shot in the face, but incredibly survived to recount the horrific ordeal.The 13 year old, whose identity has been withheld, is reportedly in critical but stable condition at hospital and remains conscious and able to speak, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.The sheriff revealed he spoke with her and that she recounted the events of that tragic night on Monday, describing how she pleaded with her stepfather to spare her life after watching him shoot her mother in the head.
And he shot me anyway,” she told Judd, the sheriff disclosed during a press conference. The attack has left her and her siblings without parents.
Incident unfolded
Jason Kenney, 47, subsequently took his own life just days before Christmas, authorities confirmed, according to PEOPLE,The incident unfolded shortly before midnight on Monday. Kenney had been watching Monday Night Football in a shed at the back of the house he shared with his wife, Crystal Kenney, and their children.He allegedly came back into the house to catch the closing moments of the match. Crystal was indoors, however, and objected to Jason commandeering the television.

Neighbour’s house
A row erupted, and matters escalated rapidly. Crystal told her 12 year old son to dash next door and ring 911. Judd said the 12 year old then ran to the neighbour’s house, from where he called 911. “As he’s leaving the house, he hears a gunshot,” Judd informed journalists at a press briefing.
The 13 year old survived due to the bullet that hit her face “struck her on the bridge of the nose, went straight up and out the top of her head,” Judd explained, describing it as a “Christmas miracle.”
Crystal and Jason
Judd also confirmed that the third child in the home, an infant daughter of Crystal and Jason, was unscathed in the attack. Following the shooting, Jason absconded from the scene before the arrival of deputies and took refuge in a shed at his recently deceased father’s residence.En route, Judd revealed that Jason contacted his sister, confessing he had committed “something very, very bad” and that she would next see him on the news.
Final thought
Deputies eventually located Jason at his father’s property, but as they encircled the shed, a solitary gunshot was heard. Jason had taken his own life. He was declared dead at the scene.
All three children, now without parents, were entrusted to their maternal grandparents, where they continue to reside.
