The transplant caused Sonny to develop some strange personality changes, which were hard to comprehend since he had not consumed any beer since he was a young boy, and he also developed a sudden desire to have beer and hot dogs of which Terry Cottle, without his knowledge, was a big fan.

Sonny was too grateful and started writing to the widow of Terry, Cheryl. Upon their eventual meeting in 1997, Sonny explained about a moment of psychological obsession.
The Attraction: “I thought I had known her years all my life,” Sonny afterwards remarked.
The Betrayal: Sonny later divorced his wife before 38 years to follow Cheryl.

Sonny had also left a weird farewell message to his pastor on the very day the anniversary of his transplant and this message gave a clue of the dark nature on the course he was about to follow.
