At around 9:30 a.m., a 19-year-old construction worker was carrying out his duties at a local housing estate when a bitumen truck malfunction changed everything.

According to early reports, a truck carrying hot bitumen heated to about 200°C (392°F) suffered a mechanical failure — its rear door suddenly swung open. This failure caused several tons of burning tar to spill out onto the worksite, burying the young man in seconds under molten asphalt.

Eyewitnesses, including the village’s deputy mayor, described the chaos:

“Almost everyone grabbed shovels and did everything they could to get him out. His head was sticking out of the tar.”
