A member of the Rivers State House of Assembly and its spokesperson, Honourable Enemi George, has spoken strongly about the ongoing political tension in the state. While sharing his views, George highlighted his long academic and professional background and expressed deep concern over how the situation has been handled.
George Highlights His Background
Speaking during an interview on Channels TV, George said he holds a PhD in Political Science. He explained that after his doctoral studies, he went on to study law. He also revealed that he spent a large part of his working life in the banking sector.According to him, his years of education and experience have exposed him to many political situations. However, he stressed that the current events in Rivers State stand out in a negative way.
“I Have Never Seen Such Recklessness”
George criticized what he described as careless handling of political intervention in the state. He recalled that when the President first stepped in to mediate, the Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, described the move as a “mere political solution.”George said this response was troubling. He added that in all his years of study and professional life, he had never witnessed such a level of recklessness in political management.

Assembly’s Position During State of Emergency
The lawmaker explained what happened during the period of the state of emergency in Rivers State. He said the President sent an Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), to meet with the House of Assembly.George noted that the lawmakers made their position very clear during that meeting. He said they asked Ibas to relay a message to the President.According to George, the lawmakers said they respected and loved the President. However, they warned that if Governor Fubara was brought back to office, all 27 members of the Assembly would resign.
Tension During Abuja Meeting
George further revealed that after this message was delivered, representatives of the President invited the Assembly members to Abuja for further talks. When they arrived, the atmosphere was tense.He said many lawmakers became angry when they realized Governor Fubara was also present at the meeting. Some members even attempted to walk out, showing how serious and emotional the disagreement had become.
Call for Proper Mediation
In closing, George stressed the need for careful and lawful handling of political disputes. He said the Assembly’s firm stance was guided by respect for the law, proper procedures, and the interest of Rivers State.He added that lasting peace can only come through structured dialogue and respect for governance rules.
