Okay, I just saw something that totally warmed my heart, and I have to tell you about it. Billy Joel—you know, the guy who wrote Piano Man and basically every song we’ve all sung at the top of our lungs—shared that he’s dealing with something called normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH).
It’s this thing where fluid builds up in the brain and can make walking tricky or mess with your memory, and sometimes people think it’s dementia or just getting older. It’s a big deal, but then Christie Brinkley, his ex-wife, posted this message that’s just so sweet it made me tear up a little.
“Dear Billy…” — A Public Love Letter
Christie went on Instagram and wrote this super touching letter to Billy, like something you’d write to someone you care about so much.
She said, “Our whole Brinkley crew is wrapping you in love and wishing you a speedy recovery,” and posted this adorable video of Billy and their daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, goofing around backstage at one of his shows. You can just feel how close they are, you know?

The video also shows Billy doing what he does best—making a huge arena feel like you’re all just hanging out together, singing along. Christie said it so well: “You have this gift of turning a massive arena into a cozy living room where we all sway together like old friends.
We can’t wait to see you back in that spotlight, shining as bright as ever.” Ugh, doesn’t that just give you all the warm fuzzies?
Family and Fans Rally Behind the Piano Man
Alexa posted too, and you can tell she’s so proud of her dad. She was like, “We’ve got your back, Pop!” and thanked everyone for all the love fans are sending.

It’s so special to see how much Billy means to his family and to all of us who’ve grown up with his music. I mean, who hasn’t had a moment with Vienna or Uptown Girl playing in the background?
What Is Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH)?
So, NPH is when there’s extra fluid in parts of the brain, and it can cause stuff like trouble walking or forgetting things. It’s easy to mistake it for aging or dementia, so it’s awesome that Billy’s story is getting people talking about it.

Billy Joel’s Legacy Shines On
While we’re all sending good vibes for Billy to get better soon, his music is still out there making us feel all the things. Songs like Piano Man or Just the Way You Are are like old friends you can always count on.

Christie summed it up so perfectly: “We’re all cheering for you to feel better soon! With all our love—the kids, me, and a couple of arenas full of fans.” I’m totally adding my cheers to that!
