Tournament Overview
What is the Canadian Shield
The 2025 Canadian Shield was the first edition of a new four-team international soccer tournament. It took place at BMO Field in Toronto from June 7 to 10. The event helped teams prepare for bigger competitions like the CONCACAF Gold Cup and CAF qualifiers.
Four teams took part: Canada (ranked 30th in FIFA), Ukraine (25), Ivory Coast (41), and New Zealand (86).
Tournament Format
Each team played two matches. If a team won in regular time, they got 3 points. A win on penalties gave 2 points, and a loss on penalties gave 1. This system kept every game exciting and meaningful.
