Shock, fear, and deep grief have enveloped River Valley Estate in Lagos following the brutal killing of a woman allegedly stabbed to death by her husband on Thursday night.This incident was hit and different for others.
Olutayo Alawo Street
The tragedy occurred around 8:00 p.m. at their residence on Olutayo Alawo Street, a once-quiet compound now sealed by silence and trauma. Neighbors say the couple shared the apartment until the fatal night when the man reportedly turned violent, attacking his wife with a knife and inflicting multiple stab wounds on her.
Disturbing Contrast
Inside the apartment, the evidence of a life draconically truncated is obvious as personal belongings that were once neatly arranged now lie scattered across the floor. Residents say the apartment appeared hastily cleaned after the incident, a disturbing contrast to what they had always known.In the same compound lives an elderly man who was close to the deceased, unaware that a murder had occurred just hours earlier. When informed, he broke down in tears, describing the woman as more than a neighbor.
“She was like a daughter to me,” he sobbed. “She helped me with errands and even kept my ATM cards sometimes. The children came here freely. She was always kind.”
But an even more chilling account came from a young girl living with the elderly man. She alleged that on the night of the incident, the suspect offered her money and urged her to leave the compound.

Insecticide Still Lingered
“He said he was about to do something he didn’t want me to be involved in,” she recounted. “He called me more than once and told me to go away. I refused to take the money and came back inside.”According to her account, the suspect had earlier poisoned a pot of stew in the apartment before allegedly going out to attack his wife. Even hours after the incident, residents say a strong smell of a substance suspected to be Sniper insecticide still lingered in the kitchen, with the pot of stew left untouched silent evidence of a deadly plan.
Remains Unanswered:
The disturbing question on many lips remains unanswered: who was the poisoned food really meant for?Another resident revealed that the killing may have been the tragic climax of prolonged domestic abuse. She recalled seeing the victim last year with visible bruises around her neck and body.
“She was beaten blue-black,” the neighbor said. “I advised her to leave. She even found another apartment, but family pressures stopped her.”
Husband Had Stabbed Her
The deceased’s elder brother confirmed the brutality of the attack, stating that his sister suffered more than four stab wounds.She called me and said her husband had stabbed her,” he said. “I rushed from the island straight to the hospital, but she had already passed away before I arrived.”Residents believe the suspect fled the scene by jumping over the estate fence after committing the crime. His whereabouts remain unknown as of the time of this report.
The family has confirmed that the case has been officially reported to the Nigeria Police, with investigations now underway.
