The holiday season is always presented as a period of uncontrollable happiness but to someone who is standing next to a grieving soul the festive lights may seem scorchingly bright. This is one drastic dichotomy that has been recently revealed by influencer Lizzie Kieffer, who has described how her first Christmas without her 12-month-old daughter, Lily, has been, in fact, much more difficult than she supposed. 2025 was a year of inconceivable exultations and depressions to the Kieffer family.
Having lost Lily in a medical tragedy earlier in April, they had a new baby Isla only four months later. This Christmas, Lizzie is educating her 368,000 followers that love can have joy and sorrow at the same table.
The Mystery of the “Lilybug”: A Medical Tragedy without Words.
The world was frozen in April 2025, when Lizzie and her husband, Matt, lost their daughter, Lily, a few days after her first birthday. The most haunting detail? Lily was asymptomatic.
The Hidden Menace: Asymptomatic Brain Masses.
Lizzie told her that doctors found that there was a huge growth on her brain- a condition that had given no warning indication. Lizzie is a physical therapist whose knowledge of health and wellness is especially heartrending as it is her profession.
Although the incidence of pediatric brain tumor is low, in some cases, they may occur without the presence of such typically associated symptoms as morning vomiting or balance problems. The skull bones are not yet well fused together in infants hence sometimes concealing the build up of pressure experienced in older children.
The family is waiting to have additional testing done to get the ultimate answers they want.
“Magnified Absence”: Why Holidays Strikes differently.
On December 27, 2025, Lizzie posted a wrenchingly gorgeous Instagram post about contemplating the season. She observed that although being in the company of family brings out the beauty of what they have, it equally brings out the lack of what is missing.
Shared Storytelling: To make her elder daughter, Mia, come to terms with the loss, the family fantasizes about the heavenly festivities of Lily. Mia believes that Lily and Jesus have had an Elsa birthday cake this year.
Stocking of Remembrance: Lily was given a yellow flower-filled, flowers-only, holiday stocking in lieu of toys; a mute, beautiful memory of the Lilybug.
• The Price of Love: Citing C.S. Lewis, Lizzie was reminding her community that grief is the cost of love.

Although the hole is never going to be filled, the birth of baby Isla in September has brought back some light into the Kieffer house. Lizzie tells how she can feel the spirit of Lily in her new sister as she is reminded that although one chapter was finished too soon, the saga of their family lives on.
