By July 5, officials said that at least 52 people, including 15 children, had died. Some of the worst-hit places were Kerr County, Travis County, and Burnet County.
One of the saddest stories comes from Camp Mystic, a girls’ summer camp in Hunt, Texas. Floodwaters swept away entire cabins, and 27 girls are still missing. At another nearby camp, Camp La Junta, two brothers—Piers and Ruffin Boyett—escaped by swimming through dark floodwaters after their cabin flooded.
