Tel Aviv–Yafo Suffers Direct Missile Strikes
In 13 June, 2025, the Tel Aviv–Yafo city became the epicenter of world-wide attention as Iran launched a massive ballistic missile barrage. Over 150 missiles targeted central Israel striking residential areas and the IDF Kiryat military headquarters marking the most severe escalation in the Iran and Israel conflict to date.
Disregard to Israel Iron Dome and ground based defense systems intercepting many of the incoming projectiles, several missiles caused important damage leading to at least 2 to 3 civilian deaths and dozens of injuries.
Operation rising lion: Israels swift and forceful response
In retaliation Israel launched ‘Operation Rising Lion’ deploying over 200 fighter jets to strike more than 100 high value Iranian targets. The offensive targeted nuclear enrichment sites command bunkers and military installations across Tehran, Natanz, Isfahan, Khondab and Khorramabad.
The senior Iranian Commanders and Nuclear Scientists were among those killed. The strikes triggered global alarms with widespread calls for de-escalation.

Bomb shelters, live reports, and International Concern
Among the most harrowing scenes emerged from Tel Aviv–Yafo bomb shelters where an Australian delegation visiting the region found themselves trapped. Nova Peris and Erin Molan shared terrifying first hand accounts, describing the ordeal as ‘like a movie’.
The Fox news correspondent Trey Yingst was broadcasting live when missiles struck nearby capturing the moment of chaos as the 15 civilians were wounded.
Therefore the Israeli emergency services worked tirelessly across strike zones to treat the injured and conduct search and rescue missions.
Tel Aviv–Yafo faces layered threats and reforms
On June 13, attack was not the first. Just weeks earlier in 4 May , 2025, a missile launched from Yemen by Houthi rebels landed near Ben Gurion Airport, injuring eight and triggering renewed scrutiny of Israel broader security apparatus.
At the same time Mayor Ron Huldai is pushing forward a controversial initiative to ban smartphones in city schools a move aimed at improving student focus and welfare amid ongoing turmoil.
In the February 2024 municipal elections Huldai was re-elected with ~21% of the vote, securing his position during one of the most volatile periods in the city modern history.
