Marcus had been missing for over a month. People became very worried when his dog, Thomas, was found alone in his home. Friends said he would never leave Thomas alone. Sadly, on March 19, his body was found in a rock quarry near 15th Avenue and Broadway Road. The police are still looking into what happened.

Marcus was a big part of Melrose Yoga, a studio that welcomes LGBTQ+ people. He loved yoga, meditation, and helping others feel better. His students and fellow teachers respected him.

“He was so full of energy and had a bright future,” said Forrest Kruger, the owner of Melrose Yoga. “Even other teachers here learned from him.”
A Friend to Many in the LGBTQ+ Community
Marcus was more than a yoga teacher. He was also a friend and a supporter of many people in the LGBTQ+ community.
“If he saw you feeling sad, he would sit with you to make sure you were okay,” Kruger said. “He wanted to help people feel better and build a strong community.”
His friend Will Bjerke remembered when they met at a local LGBTQ+ bar called the Bunkhouse.
“He was always kind. He never caused problems. He just wanted to have fun with his friends,” Will said. “He was a big, gentle, kind person.”

Remembering Marcus Freiberger
Marcus’s ex-partner, Scott Jacqmein, shared a message on Facebook about their time together.
“We were together for three years. We had good times and hard times, laughter and sadness,” Scott wrote. “But there was love. And memories.”
Marcus went through struggles in his life, but he became a respected yoga teacher and community leader. Many people admired his strength and dedication.
“The whole LGBTQ+ community in Phoenix is heartbroken,” Kruger said. “We want to know what happened to him.”
People who knew Marcus want to honor him. They will always remember his kindness and the happiness he brought to their lives.
